Surfing/DNS Issues

Due to a routing issue in Marble Falls, some customers in Blanco and the surrounding areas may not be able to surf. This is due to bad DNS (domain name server) settings. If you are using the old DNS server IPs (204.96.220.x) this needs to be changed to the new DNS server IPs (72.48.243.7 & 72.48.243.10).

If you plug directly into your radio (meaning you do not have a router) and you have Windows XP, this can be done by going to the Control Panel…

(note: if you do have a router, and don’t know how to log into it and change the DNS settings, you can follow the instructions below on each computer and it will override the settings the router passes on to the computers. However, the router’s settings should still be corrected to match our current DNS Server IP addresses)

Select “Network and Internet Connections.”

Select “Network Connections”

Look for a connection called “Local Area Connection” and check to see if the status is “Connected” (“Connected” simply means your computer has a working physical connection to a powered-on networking device, such as a router or radio)

Now, we need to right click on the “Local Area Connection,” and select “Properties”

A new window should open. On the General tab, there is a list. Look for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select it. Then select Properties.

Under the General tab, the second set of options is for DNS Settings. Select “Use the following DNS Server addresses” and enter 72.48.243.7 for the Preferred address and 72.48.243.10 for the Alternate address. Click OK

Click Close on the Local Area Connection Properties screen.

You should now be able to surf the Internet if your Internet connection is working and DNS settings are correct!
